Associate Judge Michael D. Kramer, who in March walloped Kankakee County State's Attorney Jamie Boyd in the Republican primary for judge, will be sworn in Friday to complete the term of Judge Kendall Wenzelman, who retired last November.

Kramer was appointed earlier this week by the Illinois Supreme Court.

Chief Judge Michael Kick said the appointment was necessary to make up for a short staff. On April 30, Iroquois County Judge Gordon L. Lustfeldt also retires. Judge Susan S. Tungate is on medical leave recovering from surgery.

As chief judge, Kick can ask the state's highest court to fill a vacancy. Kramer is facing no opponent in the November election.

Kramer, 57, has been an associate judge since 2002 after practicing as a lawyer for 17 years.

Associate Judge James B. Kinzer, a Republican, is running unopposed for Lustfeldt's seat. Kick said Kinzer could fill the remainder of Lustfeldt's term, which runs until December.

Kick said the circuit judges will vote on Kramer's replacement. Applicants file with the state supreme court.
