Hopeful tone at Helen Wheeler despite major cuts to mental health

In her 17 years as CEO of the Helen Wheeler Center for Community Mental Health, Jackie Haas has never seen a year quite like this one. As she explained to the audience of board members and community leaders at the center's 53rd annual meeting, times are tough.

"It's challenging," Hass said. "You're trying to do what you can to get needs met, and if there's any you're struggling to fill and can't, it's frustrating. You know what someone might need, but you can't help them get it."
