Samantha Hasselbring, of Cissna Park, is crowned the 2018 Miss Illinois County Fair on Sunday in Springfield.

Samantha Hasselbring, of Cissna Park, was named 2018 Miss Illinois County Fair on Sunday at the Illinois Association of Agriculture Fairs at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield.

The 19-year-old represented Iroquois County and competed against 70 other contestants from across the state in a two-day competition.

Hasselbring told the Champaign News-Gazette, "The feeling is indescribable. You never think it's going to happen. It's a dream come true."

Hasselbring, the daughter of Troy and Lynn Hasselbring, is a 2016 graduate of Cissna Park High School and is attending Parkland College in Champaign majoring in elementary education.

She grew up on a farm where her father raises cattle. Her mother is a teacher.

Hasselbring will be employed by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and host the 2018 Illinois State Fair. As queen, her main duty will be to emphasize the importance of agriculture and county fairs to Illinois.
